Professional Qualifications:
QMEs can include medical doctors, doctors of osteopathy, chiropractors, dentists, optometrists, podiatrists, psychologists, and acupuncturists who meet specific qualification criteria set by the DWC.
Certification Process:
In order to become a Qualified Medical Evaluator (QME), eligible healthcare professionals need to pass the QME Competency Exam, which is administered by the DWC (Division of Workers' Compensation), and also complete a mandatory report writing course. This process ensures that QMEs are well-versed in the California workers' compensation system, relevant medical-legal issues, and report writing standards.
Role in Workers' Compensation:
